How to make the most of your Photography Session: Your guide to a stress-free and fun experience.
Whether you’re planning your first session or you’re a returning client, a little preparation goes a long way in making your shoot as enjoyable and relaxed as possible. Here are some tried-and-true tips to help you feel confident, comfortable, and ready to capture some magic.
1. Leave Plenty of Time to Arrive
Life happens—traffic, parking struggles, last-minute nappy changes, or snacks flying across the car! Give yourself a buffer so you’re not arriving rushed or flustered. Aim to arrive at least 10–15 minutes early. That way, you can settle in, breathe, and be fully present for your session.
2. Avoid Big Logos (Unless That’s Your Vibe)
Loud branding or large text on clothes can distract from the connection and emotion in your images. If your personal style is bold and logo-heavy—amazing, own it! But if not, stick with timeless, solid colors or subtle patterns that let your story shine.
3. Bring Spare Clothes (Yes, Even for Adults!)
Kids spill. Adults splash. Mud happens. Whether it’s an unexpected accident or a spontaneous jump into the ocean (hello, adventure!), having a change of clothes gives you options and keeps the mood fun and flexible.
4. Wear What Makes You Feel Good
This is key. Choose an outfit that fits well, moves with you, and makes you feel like you. Avoid that one outfit you want to love but always second-guess. If you’re feeling self-conscious in it, it’ll show. Confidence is your best accessory.
5. Coordinate, Don’t Match
Family or couple sessions don’t need everyone in white shirts and jeans. Instead, pick a colour palette and let each person wear something that fits their personality. Think warm earthy tones, soft neutrals, or whatever suits the location and season.
6. Snacks & Water = Lifesavers
Especially for the little ones (and hangry adults). Pack mess-free, non-staining snacks and water to keep energy levels up. And a cheeky treat to bribe smiles? I won’t tell if you don’t.
7. Let the Kids Be Kids
Don’t stress if they’re not smiling on cue or are running wild. Some of the most beautiful moments come from letting them play, explore, and just be. I’ll capture the magic—it’s what I do.
8. Trust the Process
You’ve chosen your photographer for a reason (hi, it’s me!). Relax, have fun, and trust that I’ll guide you through it all. You don’t need to know how to pose or where to put your hands—I’ve got you.
9. Communicate Your Vision
Is there a special moment you want captured? A vibe or location you’re dreaming of? Tell me! The more I know, the more I can personalise your experience and make it truly yours.
One Last Thing…
Your session is meant to be fun. It’s your chance to connect, play, laugh, and make some memories—images you’ll treasure for years to come. So take a breath, show up as your beautiful, messy, real self, and let’s create some magic together.
